TOP EXAM NMAT
What is NMAT?
NMAT, also called NMAT by GMAC, is a national-level exam for MBA admissions at NMIMS (SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) and many other top B-schools in India. Some international institutes also accept NMAT scores.
This exam is designed to be flexible and convenient for students. Candidates can choose their own exam date, time, and test centre during the exam window using the scheduling option—similar to the GMAT.
The NMAT exam is held once a year within a set exam window. It has three sections:
1. Language Skills
2. Quantitative Skills
3. Logical Reasoning
The final score is based on performance in all three sections.
NMAT Eligibility Criteria
Before registering for NMAT, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- The candidate must have completed graduation in any stream under the 10+2+3 system or a 4-year degree program.
- A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the final year of graduation is required.
- Students who are in their final year of graduation or awaiting results can also apply. However, admission will be provisional until the final graduation mark sheet and certificate are submitted.
- Apart from NMAT’s general rules, candidates should also check the eligibility criteria of each participating college separately, as these may differ.
- While applying, candidates can choose five preferred institutes for admission. Each of these institutes may have their own specific admission requirements.
Key points to remember
1. Although GMAC sets broad eligibility norms, the participating institutes determine final admission eligibility.
2. Work experience, while not compulsory, can enhance selection chances at institutes that give weightage to professional background.
3. Candidates must fulfill institute-specific criteria in addition to meeting GMAC’s general guidelines.

Difference Between NMAT Registration & NMAT Scheduling
- NMAT Registration: This is the first step. You need to create your profile, fill in personal and academic details, select the colleges where you want to send your scores, and give information about other MBA exams (if any). Registration is done only once.
- NMAT Scheduling: After registration, you need to book your exam date, time, and test city/centre as per your convenience. This process is also called NMAT slot booking.
NMAT 2025 Scoring Process:
In NMAT , each correct answer gives +3 marks with no penalty for wrong answers, leading to a maximum raw score of 324. Because the exam uses computer-adaptive testing, raw scores are scaled through equating to account for varying difficulty across test slots. Final scaled scores range from 12–120 per section and 36–360 overall.
Raw Score Calculation: Each correct answer earns +3 marks; there is no negative marking for incorrect responses. The maximum raw score totals 324 marks (108 questions × 3 marks).
Scaling and Equating: NMAT’s computer-adaptive nature means question sets differ among candidates. Raw scores are converted into scaled scores using equating to ensure fairness across slots. This normalisation adjusts for minor differences in test difficulty.
Final Scaled Score Range
- Section-wise scaled score range: 12–120
- Overall scaled score range: 36–360
